Wales: Exploring the hippy town of Machynlleth
A recent wedding invite lead us to explore the market town of Machynlleth, Wales. I had visited Wales a few years ago and had simply forgotten how picturesque the countryside of Wales truly is.
We travelled from London via Birmingham and onto Machynlleth “Mach”, the journey lasted around 4hrs and went quickly. Once we arrived at the station, we made our way into the town, the station is perfectly located for a short stroll into the town.
Off to find our accommodation for the next couple of nights, a pub, that’s right were staying in a pub. A first for us, a pub which also functions as a B n B (bed & breakfast). Checking in at the bar, while a barmaid pours a pint for a local was a new experience. The pub was great, cozy, traditional, friendly and amazing prices… compared to London prices. A pint of beer and a glass of wine for £5.10… YES PLEASE!!
Over the next few days we really enjoyed exploring the town and chatting with the friendly locals. One of my favourite foodie finds was a lovely vegetarian cafe, called The Quarry Cafe – friendly service and a homely menu….a vegetarian delight and fitting for the town. Another thing I loved about the town was the selection of arts & crafts shops to leisurely wonder around.
