Ideas for “a fun day out in London”… No.1

Living in London, I get the lucky task of being tour guide to friends and family visiting the city. This means I need to keep thinking of new, fun, interesting itineraries to keep everyone entertained. A task I love. I’m a planner and love organising things.  I thought I’d share my most recent fun day out in the city.

Start the day off with breakfast at the Duck & Waffle it is the highest restaurant in the UK offering truly spectacular panoramic views of the city.  The journey in the speedy glass lift is a fun start to reaching the 40th floor.  We decided to try the signature dish, Duck & Waffle…. wow, I never knew this combo would be so tasty. Highly recommended.  You’ll need to call ahead of time to make a reservation.  Tip: If it is a special occasion i.e. say a birthday, the restaurant will discreetly bring out a little something special for the birthday boy/girl.

Next, take a stroll from the restaurant across London Bridge, taking in the sights such as Tower Bridge and The Shard along the way.  You’ll reach Borough Market, one of my favourite markets in London. Have a wander, enjoy some banter with the friendly market traders, pick up some usual snacks for later, grab a glass of bubbles or a try a local crafted draft beer.

Make your way to the Golden Hinde, along the riverside.  The Golden Hinde is a recreated ship built as a museum which can be toured and even some tours offer you to sleep the night on-board.

In this area there is lots of activities to do including, wine tasting at Vinopols, visiting the Shakespeare’s Globe or wandering around the Tate Modern.

Next, hop on the Thames Clipper boat (there are two piers nearby Bankside Pier or London Bridge Pier) the boat is around £6 one way and takes you along the Thames towards Embankment a lovely, alternative view of London.

Step of the pier at Embankment and head up Villiers Street, towards the Strand. Walk across the road towards Trafalgar Square perhaps visit the National Portrait Gallery, get cheap tickets to a west end show or head to the cinema to catch the latest Blockbuster movie.

I hope you have some ideas for your next fun day out in London.  If you’d like more suggestions, drop me a message, I’d be happy to help 🙂
